50% of people will get an STD in their lifetime.

There are way too many STD’s to cover in just one week, but I don’t want to drown the next few months in posts about the not so fun symptoms, treatments and details about STDs. But I do want to draw up a list of the most common diseases out there and some of the more unknown ones.

Did you know that half of us will get an STD in our lifetime? Thats a lot of people. Thats also why its super important to get tested regularly (even if you are in a commited relationship).

There are 20 different types of infections that can be transmitted through sexual activity. They include:

  • Chancroid
  • Chlamydia
  • Cytomegalovirus (CMV)
  • Genital Warts (HPV)
  • Gonorrhea aka The Clap
  • Hepatitis A, B & C
  • Herpes (HSV1 & HSV2)
  • HIV/AIDs
  • Human Papillomavirus (HPV)
  • Intestinal Parasites
  • Molluscum Contagiosum
  • Mononucleosis aka Mono
  • Mycoplasma Genitalium
  • Nongonococcal Urethritis (NGU)
  • Pelvic Inflammatory Disease (PID)
  • Pubic Lice aka Crabs
  • Scabies
  • Syphilis
  • Trichomoniasis (Trich)
  • Vaginitis (BV, Yeast, Etc)

A few of these I had never heard of (Molluscum Contagiosum, wtf?) but most I was aware of. Check out The STD Project for some detailed info on the STDs listed above!
